Spring Commencement Candlelight Ceremony!

When is the Candlelight Ceremony?

All graduating students and their families and guests are invited to the Spring Commencement Candlelight, which will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021, Ceremony via livestream with limited in person spots available. Guest speakers include President Johnson, Senior Vice President for Student Life Melissa Shivers, and President and CEO of The Ohio State Alumni Association, Molly Ranz Calhoun.

How do I apply to speak at Candlelight or Commencement Week?

Want to leave your mark at Ohio State before you graduate? Here is your chance! Apply for a chance to speak at Commencement and the Candlelight Ceremony. To apply you will submit a copy of your speech in regards to the prompt, fill out 1-3 references, and submit some basic information. 

Things to Know about the Candlelight Ceremony

  • All members of the Ohio State community and their guests are invited to attend a livestream of the ceremony.
  • For those interested in viewing the livestream, please visit
  • For those attending in person, please be aware of the following:
    • Space is extremely limited.
    • In accordance with commencement guidelines, each attendee will be allowed to bring up to two guests. Each group will be in socially distant circles located throughout the Oval. All attendees must be wearing masks or they will be unable to participate in the event.
    • Registration does not guarantee admission to the Candlelight Ceremony. Once we reach capacity, you will be added to a waitlist. Registration to attend in person has already closed and participants have been contacted.
  • If you require an accommodation such as live captioning or interpretation to participate in this event, please contact Casey Petrae at . Requests made two weeks before the event will generally allow us to provide seamless access, but the university will make every effort to meet requests made after this date.
