Spring 2018 Commencement Candlelight Ceremony!

When is the Candlelight Ceremony?
All graduating students and their families and guests are invited to the Spring Commencement Candlelight Ceremony which will be held on Saturday, May 5th at 9:00 pm on the Thompson Library side of the Oval. The graduating students will receive a class pin available exclusively at the event. President Drake and Senior Vice-President of Student Life Dr. J will offer remarks.

Things to Know about the Candlelight Ceremony

  • Pre event entertainment at 8:00 pm.
  • All members of the Ohio State community are invited to attend.
  • No RSVP required.
  • The duration of the ceremony is a little less than one hour.
  • A limited number of chairs will be available on a first come, first served basis for guests who need them.

Student Speaker Application 

Your time at The Ohio State University has almost come to an end. Are you still looking for a way to leave behind a legacy of all your own? If so we have a great opportunity that you are able to take part in! We are looking for a Student Speaker for the Spring Commencement Week Candlelight Ceremony and other Commencement Activities, which will take place on May 5th, 2018 from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m. on the Thompson Library side of the Oval. Registration is open  at: The applications are due at March 26th at 11:59 pm. If your essay is selected you will be asked to preform it in front of a panel of judges on Monday, April 2nd from 5-9 pm. 

All you have to do to apply is submit your proposed speech about your experience here at The Ohio State and what it has meant to you. If your speech is chosen you will then be asked to perform it in front of a carefully selected panel of judges, who will choose our Spring 2018 Commencement Candlelight Ceremony Speaker!
